Heywood in Bloom

Heywood in Bloom was formed in 2010.  We have a committee of 10 people. Our monthly meetings are at TOPS on Hind Hill Street, Heywood which is our headquarters. We work closely with Environmental Management and our local Council/Councillors. In total 2016 saw 12 awards for Heywood as a whole. As a group we enter Heywood and other groups/ businesses/ parks etc. into the North West in Bloom yearly competition. We bring the judges to Heywood, take them around the route we have organised, they meet members of each group and make notes to decide the level of achievement.

Our first entry in 2010 saw us bring back a Silver Gilt award for Heywood, not bad for our newly formed group. In 2016 we achieved the highest award of Gold for Heywood with our headquarters TOPS also reaching Gold. The awards continued with Queen's Park Gold and best in the North West a wonderful accolade for our Park. The Industrial Park was awarded a Gold and All Soul's Primary School received the highest mark equivalent to a Gold Standard.

We have increased our business entries each year and we welcome the funding from Heywood businesses. We have a fundraising stall which we use at various events across town throughout the year. We are a self-funding organisation, each year local people/businesses donate time and goods towards our projects. Along with our 47 hanging baskets on the main street there are tiered planters /saddle baskets and an allotment. New volunteers are always welcomed and we always have plenty of areas for them to get involved with.

We enjoy working as a catalyst to bring groups together to work on projects. In 2016 we planted 15,000 purple crocus bulbs across Heywood as a joint effort along with Heywood Rotary.  We are now working on the route for this year's entry.
