Heywood & District Angling Society

Heywood & District Angling Society was resurrected on the 1st August 2008, after the demise of the original Heywood Angling Society in 1986. All the original trophies have been transferred to the new society giving in excess of 26 trophies together with some additions for 2012 onwards.

There are currently five junior matches on the calendar and more are envisaged for the 2017 season.

The Society encourages junior membership as they are the anglers of the future - who in turn will teach and encourage others to take up the sport.

It is a known and recorded fact that there are more participants in fishing than football supporters! Over 1.5 million rod licences were sold in 2010 - more than the population of Birmingham the UK's second largest city.

The Environment Agency estimate that 1 in 5 people in the UK are involved in Angling in some form at least once every 3 years.

Our Society is committed to Angling Development in the Heywood area - we have four licensed level 2 coaches, and one licensed level 3 coach, plus one coach educator. We run regular junior coaching sessions - all free with equipment provided.

One of the strengths of our Society is our commitment to providing accessible angling facilities for the North Wests disabled angling community - and have been awarded a British Disabled Angling Association Club Gold Award.

All coaches hold the following Certification:-

  • 1st.4sport L2/L1 CCA UKCC

  • Public Liability Insurance

  • First Aid

  • Child Protection

  • DBS checked

Child protection and safety are paramount to the Society.

The main object of H&D A.S. is to promote angling to all members of the community, and from all Ethnic groups and those with visible and invisible disabilities, learning difficulties and those on the Autistic Spectrum.

Provision of angling coaching sessions with Licensed Level 2 and Level 1 coaches within a controlled and safe environment.

Coaching or “Taster Sessions” are by arrangement only and subject to available dates. All bait and tackle is supplied with a nominal charge of £2.50 per person for two hours.

Maximum participants 10 per session or by arrangement with H&D A.S.

We cater for all ages

We are proud to have received the awards highlighting our achievements for the last seven years of providing coaching facilities.

The award of “Fish Mark” accreditation from the Angling Trust (NGB) presents peace of mind to parents, knowing that their child is being coached in a safe environment with professional coaches.
